Scared of a little snow just because the news is using terms like "historic", "catastrophe", and "extinction-level event".

Seriously though, stay safe and make sure you have enough booze food and supplies.

Soooo.. how much snow is there on the East coast?

Those of us in the southeast mountains with assorted 4WDs, meanwhile, may just have ourselves a snicker.

I'm not impressed. Here in Northern WNY we're supposed get like 4-5 inches. After seeing the south towns get blasted last year with over 7 feet of snow, it's not phasing me at all.

Southeastern states like where I am are mostly a nothingburger - several inches possible. Up toward the northern extremities, possibly as much as a half-meter or more.

I don't understand the level of concern. We live in New England, it fucking snows.

C'mon now, SNOWSHAMING COLORADAN... 2 feet of snow in a major metropolitan area is newsworthy.

Is there any yet? I'm not sure. I know it's supposed to hit hard tonight through Tuesday. Meanwhile, here in Colorado we'll be close to 70 and sunny the next two days.

I could see how half a meter could cause some concern, if it was in a place that never get snow at all. Not that 50cm is a small amount of snow, but it's hardly a huge amount either (depending on if it comes within an hour or several though). We've only had about 50cm total this winter here in Hamar (Norway), but most of it came in a few days, then we had rain.. yeah.. great times.

I have no idea, I'm in Norway mate :) The notion of ten inches or so of snow causing trouble is just.. well.. laughable to me (but don't tell that to the people in England) :P

No, smart guy.

I have a 4x4 truck, snow tires, chains and a winch. I'm prepared. If you aren't, don't complain. It snows every year usually in the months of November through March. #winteriscoming

3 feet of snow in boston (a city already impossible to drive in) could indeed be bad. Where I am here in NY we're looking at just a foot though, and that's nothing to concern me or my wannabe rally car! Actually I just got out of a meeting at work and snow came up, and I was surprised to see my boss and most of the others there as excited for snow as I am. Bring it on!

The funny thing is, last week we had a storm here in Denver that only dropped an inch or two, but because of the way it happened it iced up the whole west half of the metro area and paralyzed the city of Lakewood for 3+ hours during the evening rush hour. It's not always the big storms you have to worry about.

It started this morning around 7. Supposed to stop for a bit then hammer away this evening. About an inch and a half right now....

But surely an inch an a half can't be something out of the ordinary? I'm not having a go at the east coast here, I'm just wondering..

Ahh.. but ice storms are something different. We don't have storms were I live (that is hardly ever at least), but we've got freezing rain at least twice each winter, and THAT screws us rather bad..

It's the impending 2 feet plus that they're forecasting later that everyone is up in arms about. The dumpster guy still hasn't showed up to take the dumpster out of my driveway. I may have to park on my lawn.....Something I do not want to do with all the rain we received over the past 6 weeks. The ground is still a bit swampy and not hard. I have 2 of my cars parked at the in-laws house not too far away right now....

This was snow, it just happened in a strange way. It snowed in the morning, then cleared for a while, then started back up. Everything that had melted refroze and put a sheet of ice about 1 cm thick on the road. It might have been my worst commute ever (I live about 23 miles from my office).

My scariest trip ever was in my Cougar back when it was my only car many years ago. Same thing Snow, thaw, freeze, thick sheet of ice, followed by more snow. I was rocking Yokohama AVS intermediate tires at the time. One of the greatest dry weather tires ever made. Horrendous in the snow. 90 minutes to go 4 miles.

Stinking ass Weather Channel...yeah, it's a big ass storm. Yeah it's gonna be a mess. Jim Cantori and his fear mongering buddies can go get stuffed...it's New England. It's winter. This shit happens. Maybe not often 2 feet in NYC but still...this shit happens.

Shaddup and by the way - stop naming winter storms, you douchebags.
